All young people deserve a chance to explore their interests and enjoy an enriching, educational summer experience. Young residents have ambition, talents, and growing interests to explore on their own terms. However, costs for summer camps, clubs, retreats, and necessary equipment can add up quickly and create entry barriers for local families.
True Ground’s resident services team can help bridge this gap with extracurricular scholarships. As of June 2026, True Ground has supported 115 children, distributing more than $14,000 for 77 extracurricular scholarships and 38 summer camp scholarships.
Families can select activities that reflect students’ interests and goals while easing pressure on their household budget. Summer camp and extracurriculars are not just “extras,” they help children develop leadership, creativity, friendships, and curiosity.
For one young person, a scholarship meant joining a student leadership retreat. For another, it meant having camping equipment needed for a Boy Scout trip in Shenandoah. For another, it opened the door to a week of theater camp at Arena Stage in DC. At True Ground, these scholarships help turn interests into opportunities.
