We are real estate developers

True Ground is dedicated to building, owning and operating affordable multifamily housing. We currently house over 5,000 individuals and families across a portfolio of over 2,800 apartments spanning 23 properties in the D.C. metro region. Our reach extends to areas of opportunity throughout the region to meet the growing demand for affordable housing.

We consider residents who call a True Ground property our neighbors, too. Because of this philosophy, we build in services to help them make the most of their home. While access to housing marks the initial stride toward self-reliance — it’s just the beginning. By collaborating with a growing cohort of service providers, True Ground provides residents with a firm foundation, a trusted safety net that extends beyond housing, supporting the whole person through every step of their journey.

True Ground leads by advocating for bold and innovative policies at the local, state and federal level that have the potential to unlock resources to increase the supply of housing, and to make housing more affordable for those who need it most. We work with policy makers to share best practices from ours and our residents’ experiences so that our neighbors with lower-incomes have fair and equitable opportunities in one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Through partnerships with civic associations, local businesses, faith groups, and service providers, True Ground shapes housing, land use, and social service policies to foster thriving neighborhoods, ensuring resident voices remain at the forefront of these discussions.
